Baron Brimstone intends to hold dominion over the criminal underworld as surely as Old Scratch rules over Hell – and to augment his otherworldly abilities with sheer manpower, he requires a sinister Satan Squad!

Fiction

In the wake of Baron Brimstone's theft of the Sol-Mac device from Chem-Solar, word on the street spread that there was a new heavy in town needing some muscle. A collection of small time criminals were assembled in a musty warehouse at the edge of town when a puff of smoke heralded the arrival of Baron Brimstone, who announced his intentions to form a sinister Satan Squad.

A riot broke out at the encouragement of Duke Dawson, but Brimstone's lieutenants, Hammer Harrison and Snake Marston brought it to a violent end. Satisfied at this demonstration of their power, Brimstone withdrew, offering the gangsters the choice between joining them and getting rich or suffering damnation eternal. Evidently some of the gangsters took him up on the offer of joining the Satan Squad, but Duke wasn't impressed, saying it'd take more than that to "punch [his] ticket."

In the weeks that followed, the Satan Squad carried out a series of co-ordinated heists to steal the components required to duplicate the Sol-Mac. Duke Dawson caught wind of the next job and considered it a "real head trip". A mutual contact put him in touch with Delmar Insurance's Pamela Quinn, who Duke intended to squeal to for cash, but before he could reveal the Satan Squad's next move, he was crushed to death by Snake Marston. Hammer Harrison took Pamela hostage.

The next heist was to steal the famous golden bell from the cathedral of St. Gabriella of the Highlands as, once flattened out, it would provide ample material from which to create microwave-proof shielding for producing the Sol-Mac. By using the computational power of Compucord, the superhero Machine Man came to the same conclusion, and he caught the Satan Squad in the act on the cathedral's roof.

Ensnared by Snake Marston, Machine Man disengaged his waist couplings and span his upper torso so rapidly that it shook Snake off, knocking down a number of Satan Squad goons like bowling pins. He fought Hammer Harrison off by restraining him in a chimney, and turned his attention to the Satan Squad's waiting helicopter. Driven to desperation, Brimstone pushed Pamela from the copter.

After saving Pamela, Machine Man boarded the helicopter and was set upon by further Satan Squad goons. Brimstone blasted him with the Sol-Mac, but Machine Man had gold shielding of his own. He rendered Brimstone unconscious by electrifying the entire helicopter using its own power source. The scheme was foiled when Machine Man transferred the helicopter over to a police pilot. Baron Brimstone and his Sinister Satan Squad!

Immediately afterwards, Machine Man discovered that his left arm, detached during the battle, had gone missing. His search for it was delayed as he had to step in to resolve a conflict between escaping stragglers from the Satan Squad and the NYPD. Unaffected by their hallucinogenic grenades, Machine Man subdued the goons, even grabbing a blaster by the barrel to prevent its discharge. The Satan Squad members were presumably taken into police custody; Machine Man wasn't sticking around to find out. Arms and the Robot!
