Snake Marston is a creep. He could have been the world's greatest contortionist, but instead he slithers through the shadows, doing the bidding of Baron Brimstone as part of his sinister Satan Squad. It's a job he performs extremely well, wrapping himself around his victims and constricting them until they break. The Baron can count on Snake's absolute loyalty, even though he keeps him in the dark about how many of his feats are magical in nature. His fellow henchman Hammer Harrison has never seen him smile.

Snake and Hammer accompanied Brimstone to a warehouse full of goons who were looking for supervillainous employment. A riot broke out when Duke Dawson egged the crowd on that the Baron and his lieutenants were a freak show, so Snake used his signature move to teach one of them a lesson. Brimstone withdrew, satisfied at the demonstration of their power, and evidently some of the gangsters took him up on the offer of joining the Satan Squad. After Brimstone, Snake, and Hammer reconvened in the Baron's luxury penthouse, the Satan Squad began a carefully co-ordinated crime spree to steal components to mass produce the Sol-Mac device the Brimstone had stolen from Chem-Solar.

Weeks later, as the plan was approaching completion, Snake and Hammer ambushed Duke Dawson, who was about to sell intel to Delmar Insurance's Pamela Quinn. Snake wrapped himself around Dawson until he'd sung his last sonnet. Hammer had knocked Pamela out, and suggested taking her back to Brimstone for questioning.

Shortly afterwards, the Satan Squad were in the process of stealing the famed golden bell at the cathedral of St. Gabriella of the Highlands when they were tracked down by Machine Man. Hammer ordered the men to keep working while he and Snake dealt with the superhero. Snake tried his trick on Machine Man, but the living robot disengaged his waist couplings and span his upper torso so rapidly that it shook Snake off. He knocked down a number of Satan Squad goons like bowling pins. Baron Brimstone and his Sinister Satan Squad!
