The man known only as "Agent K" is the top covert operative for the classified Canadian ministry of defence section codenamed Department H.

His expertise seems to be mostly office- and stationery-based.

Fiction

When the Canadian parliament received a dossier full of serious allegations, the top echelons of Department H were called into conference, including Agent K. A minister explained that the dossier alleged that an earlier incursion into Canada by the Hulk was deliberately arranged by the living robot Machine Man on the orders of the U.S. government. As the Hulk had destroyed vast tracks of Canadian timberland on that occasion, it was felt that the U.S. government owed Canada explanation, if not compensation.

The minister drafted K to head to New York City and discover the veracity and origins of the dossier, providing him with a sonic transmitter to communicate with the team of experienced specialists accompanying him. To K's surprise, the specialists turned out to be members of the near-mythical super-team Alpha Flight, Canada's (government-sponsored) answer to the Avengers. After watching the Alpha Flight members complete their training regimens, K and the minister discussed strategy with them, making clear that this particular mission was off the books.

The next morning, the agents travelled to New York City by limousine. While K investigated his own leads throughout the day, the Alpha Flight members were left at a loose end. The Mutant twins Jeanne-Marie and Jean-Paul Beaubier elected to spend their time in the city that never sleeps partying the night away.

The following day, K discovered the post office from which the dossier had been mailed, and that the stationery was for use only by U.S. federal departments. His next strategy was to infiltrate various government premises within the radius of that post office, knowing that government employees, no matter the country, left precisely at 5 p.m.. Eventually, by examining every typewriter he came across, he discovered imperfections that matched the printing quirks seen on the dossier's documents in the office of Senator Miles Brickman. K hypothesised that Brickman was trying to boost his political profile by having the Canadian government join him in standing against Machine Man.

With vengeance in his heart, K apparently arranged for the news media to catch wind of Brickman's plot. The story was spun that Brickman had been conspiring to have the Canadian government rig the American election. As a result of K's actions, Brickman's entire election campaign deflated. Alone Against Alpha Flight!

The lesson here? Don't mess with Canada.

  • Agent K was never seen after his appearance in Machine Man. Know why? Because he's a damn good secret agent.
  • K is never actually seen to use the sonic transmitter given to him to communicate with Alpha Flight.
