Dr Oliver Broadhurst is the head of the X project, a secret initiative to create experimental robot life. Or at least he was, until it all went up in smoke.

Fiction

Dr Broadhurst was a computer engineering specialist, and he became the director of a top secret U.S. military project to create robot soldiers. Unfortunately, the first fifty robots in the so-named "X series" suffered serious personality defects, becoming uncontrollable and dangerous, with three quarters of the robots suffering nervous breakdowns. The New Machine Man After X-35 went on a violent rampage caused by an existential crisis, Broadhurst made the reluctant decision to end the X project. As such, every X series robot was primed to explode. He discussed the sorry state of affairs with his assistant Haines, before going on to notify Abel Stack of his son's imminent destruction. Machine Man later called in a favour with Broadhurst, to reverse the mass transferral process that Dr Hiram R. Goldsmith had used on Barry Witherspoon, restoring his regular density and bringing him back to his senses. The Man Who Could Walk Through Walls
