Judge Goodman presiding.

Fiction

Goodman was the judge presiding over the case that followed the 1946 escape attempt from Alcatraz. With Joseph Cretzer, Coy, and Hubbard all killed in the firefight, it fell to the jury to deliberate over the fates of Shockley, Thompson, and Carnes. After 14 hours, the jury returned a verdict of guilty on all counts: murdering two warders, taking part in a mutiny, wounding several policemen, and destroying federal premises. Goodman sentenced Shockley and Thompson to execution by gas chamber, and Carnes to life imprisonment. The Truth About Alcatraz!
