Alerted by a security alarm in [[Mister Fantastic|Reed]]'s lab, the Human Torch told the Thing – who'd just got out of the bath – that he'd turf the intruder out in record time so as not to miss his date that night. The Thing quipped that humility wasn't one of Torch's virtues. At the lab, the Torch found a [[Ion|gross gaseous monster]] and attempted to fight with fireballs, only to find his projectiles pass through it. Blasted by pure electro-magnetic energy, the Torch was joined by the Thing, whom the creature buried under a pile of electromagnetised computer equipment.▼

When the Thing returned from [[Egypt|Cairo]] on a commercial flight, Johnny picked him up at JFK International Airport in the [[Fantasti-Car]], startling an already starstruck cabbie. Ben criticised his driving, and refused to help him properly store the vehicle as it would ruin his manicure. Johnny smiled as Ben reunited with his galpal [[Alicia Masters]], reflecting how the mysterious power of love had matched the beauty and the beast. As he followed them downstairs, he flew behind them, his trail forming the shape of a heart.
Ben and Johnny found that they had a visitor in the form of [[Jocasta]]. She explained that she had left the safety of the [[Avengers Mansion]] after feeling mistreated and unthought of by the [[Avenger]]s – to the surprise of Ben and Johnny, who both thought she was a starting member. The Fantastic Four took her in, with Reed determined to find the malfunction that was causing her to lose control of herself and her powers. Johnny and Alicia guided Jocasta to a guest room; she was speechless and overwhelmed by their hospitality, so Johnny led the conversation, telling her how they could always use another pretty lady and that it was the shame Sue and [[Franklin Richards|Franklin]] weren't in town to meet her.
