Halloween – also spelled Hallowe'en – is a special occasion celebrated on Earth on the 31st of October. Participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes, go trick-or-treating, and/or be on the lookout for spooks and spectres.

Fiction

In 1984, Byron J. Benjamin of Delmar Insurance chose October 31 as the date to put the company's new super-embassy on the market, inaugurated with a Halloween costume party. Foreign dignitaries and Delmar employees were in attendance.

Insurance investigator Aaron Stack, alias Machine Man, had been entrusted by Benjamin to ensure that nothing went wrong with the grand opening. Unfortunately, the super-embassy became a target for the seasonally-appropriate soldier of fortune, Jack O'Lantern. During his first clash with the villain, Machine Man's face was badly disfigured. With no time to arrange for a costume before the party, Aaron bribed some passing trick-or-treaters to give him a rubber superhero mask. This makeshift costume didn't impress his colleague Maggie Jones, who pulled off his "man of steel" mask only to be impressed that there was another steel man underneath. After foiling Jack O'Lantern's plans with the embassy, Aaron made sure to avoid any situation where his co-workers would ask why his "mask" was identical to Machine Man's face. Jolted by Jack O'Lantern!
