After being exiled from both Norway and Iceland, [[Erik the Red]] and his family sailed west with a few of his most faithful friends. Following the legend of [[Gunnbjorn]], Erik discovered Greenland, where they set up a colony. His exile expired three years later, and Erik returned to Iceland to persuade more settler to join them.
